Founded in 1998, Domain.com provides web hosting solutions and technology to successful individuals, entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized businesses around the globe. Domain.com is one of the largest web hosting and domain name providers, powering more than 1.2 million websites around the globe.

5-Year Partnership, Reaching 428K Developers Globally

In 2018, Domain.com sought out a scalable, low-cost, and low-lift solution to increase brand awareness and product adoption among developers. To achieve this goal, Domain.com chose to partner with Major League Hacking’s (MLH) Hackathon League to become the top choice of domain providers and web hosting solutions among its competitors. From 2018 – 2023, MLH worked with Domain.com to get their product in front of 428K+ developers worldwide.

“Major League Hacking has been one of the most efficient channels for connecting with the next generation of technology professionals. MLH’s model of student-run hackathons is a unique sponsorship opportunity that allows for a deeper connection between the audience and the product. Hackers have been able to use Domain.com’s products services in a hands-on way in a welcoming, fun environment. And with the full support of MLH, Domain.com has been able to iterate and scale its offer at a cost of pennies per hacker. The commitment to event organizers, attending hackers, and sponsors has been a major benefit to Domain.com. We know our brand is in good hands every weekend, and we know that when hackers see a brand at an event, they instantly form a positive association. It has been a true pleasure to build our brand with the help of MLH!”

Increasing Brand Preference & Product Usage Among Developers

The MLH Hackathon League is our event series that reaches 80,000+ developers globally each year over 200+ events. Rather than sponsor one-off events, which can be costly and time intensive, companies like Domain.com sponsor the Hackathon League to get their product in front of developers continuously at scale.

Every Hackathon League sponsorship is uniquely designed to help the company achieve its goals. For Domain.com, their main activation for the 2023 Hackathon Season included a prize category for 215 events serving a total of 50,000 developers.

The goal of the prize category was to incentivize 2023 Hackathon Season attendees to use Domain.com in their hackathon projects. According to MLH’s Fall 2022 Season Survey, 84% of developers said prize categories for a specific technology make them more likely to use it during a hackathon. By the end of the 2023 Hackathon Season, Domain.com had received 1,362 prize category submissions with over 5,000 developers utilizing Domain.com products in their hackathon projects.

“By using [Domain.com], we were able to create a website that is both innovative and accessible to a wide range of users. Overall, we feel that our website has the potential to create real change by fostering community engagement and providing a space for meaningful discussions and collaborations.” shared Aisha and Sakira Daodu creators of the TogetherForChange hackathon project.

Becoming the Domain Provider & Web Hosting Solution of Choice Among Developers

Over the 5-year partnership, Domain.com solidified its place in the hackathon community. Every year, Domain.com is consistently one of the top brands of choice among developers in our community. The Hackathon League may be a quick and low-lift solution but its long-term impact on Domain.com will continue to be felt for many years to come.
